Meet the 2015 AAVWS Fellow

My name is Adam Walls and I have to say I am very much looking forward to the first weekend in November and the Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show. I have been a lover of what we in term ‘alternative varieties’ for over a decade since I was lucky enough to tour Europe as a 20-something traveller.

At that stage, I naively figured I knew a fair bit about wine having tried a stack of Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet. But touring through the old world opened my eyes to a myriad of varieties. Many I hadn’t heard of before and most I couldn’t pronounce but each was as delicious as the next. I had a thirst to know more.

These days I am fortunate to work in the wine industry in Newcastle, NSW as part of the wine buying team for Wine Selectors. I have always been a passionate campaigner for alternative varieties and over the years I can proudly testify from the feedback I get from the winemakers we buy wine from, and the wants and desires of our many members, that interest in alternative varieties is at an all-time high, with no sign of abating!

I see shows such as the AAVWS as pivotal to keeping that upward trend skyrocketing and I am stoked that this year I will proudly be part of it, as the AAVWS 2015 Fellow. The passion, expertise, skill and energy that will be on show in Mildura will be an invaluable experience that will help me to drive Wine Selectors and Selector Magazine to continue to be proud and wide reaching brand ambassadors for ‘Alternative Varieties’ in Australia.

See you all in Mildura where I look forward to sharing a glass of wine with you and chatting about the evolution of this great alternative varietal revolution!

Changing the World

“The massive impact the AAVWS has had on wine production and consumption in Australia over the last 15 years is now flowing overseas as alternative varieties breathe new life into the UK market and add colour and excitement to the Australian offering.”
