General Conditions

  1. Should a significant number of wines made from the same grape variety be received in classes 10, 11, 12, 13, 24 and 25 (‘other varieties or blends’), because there is no designated class for that variety, the committee reserves the right to separate these wines into a new class. Should the committee make this determination, the persons entering wines of this new class will be contacted by the committee.
     
  2. EXCLUSIONS. Wines or blends made primarily from the varieties Pinot Gris, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, the Cabernet family generally, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Shiraz, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, Colombard, Grenache and Verdelho will not be eligible for the show. (The above varieties may not be entered as a varietal wine, but may be used as a minor component in a blended wine. The exception is the experimental classes 27 and 28, where new and innovative styles made from any variety are permitted.)
     
  3. Both finished and unfinished wines are welcome to enter the show BUT ONLY wines that are finished, bottled and commercially available at the time of entry will be eligible for medals and trophies. Please, then, ensure that finished, bottled, commercially available wines are entered WITH their commercial labels and capsules on. ‘Cleanskin’ wines submitted WITHOUT capsules or commercial labels will be considered to be unfinished tank/barrel samples and as such will NOT be eligible for medals or trophies.
     
  4. Commercially available' is understood to mean the wine is bottled by - and available for purchase through retail outlets, cellar door sales or mail order at - the time of entry.
     
  5. All wines used in all classes must have been 100% grown and produced in Australia or New Zealand.
     
  6. Wines entered into varietal classes must comprise a minimum of 85% of the stated grape variety.
     
  7. Wines entered into blended classes must comprise a minimum of 51% of 'alternative' grape variety(s).
     
  8. Additives and contents of all wines submitted must conform to the P4 Standards.
     
  9. Any person submitting a wine into the show must have the authority of the wine maker or wine company involved in the production of the wine. Confirmation of this may be requested if the person entering the wine is not the wine maker or a principal, executive or employee of the company which produced the wine.
     
  10. We will issue special labels for the exhibits and these will be mailed to exhibitors on Wednesday 8 October 2010.
     
  11. Wines in Experimental classes are not eligible for the major award.
     
  12. To qualify for a trophy the wine must be awarded a gold medal in the eligible classes
    .
  13. If you win a medal you will be expected to provide free of charge one case of wine to the AAVWS to be showcased at the following year's Awards Long Lunch.
